Journey's end: Tojimbo, a series of steep rock cliffs dropping precipitously off into the ocean from a 25 - 30 meter height. Famous as a spot for suicides, it is celebrated in song and legend and many bad TV dramas - and not surprisingly it's been turned into a major tourist trap (for sightseers, not participants).

Early morning is your best bet if you want to see Tojimbo relatively undisturbed. At other times, try not to be distracted by the crowds and the incessant loudspeaker invitations to board a sightseeing boat.

From Tojimbo, it’s only a short ride to Awara Onsen or a longer ride into downtown Fukui. From either place, you can catch a train home.
