If I haven’t convinced you to go there yet, this video taken cycling down the gentle slope in the center of Hattoji should do the trick. Note the waterwheel on the left.

Pro tip: if you’ve decided to do Ushimado first and you’re planning to cycle to Fukiya from here, go straight on this road and don’t curve to the left; instead, take the very tiny road that continues on straight and goes down the hill. That will take you down the mountain to the west and save time on your ride to Fukiya (in addition to being a very nice way down that very few people know about).
