Tomita Farm also offers a great selection of other flowers as well. However, I saw flowers almost this lovely in many places along my route, just growing wild by the roadside.

Furano is not far from my next destination, Biei, and it’s a level road between the two. So I took the long way in order to tackle the only real climb on the entire route: the road to Shirobone Onsen at an elevation of just over a thousand meters. The proprietor of the rather funky Furano YH (which I highly recommend) said “That might be a steep climb on a bike.” No kidding - I had flashbacks of Norikura at some points. But it didn’t take long, and soon I was enjoying lovely alpine-like scenery.
