Near the Pacific coast (and the main roads and railways), the boats are mainly for taking tourists on sightseeing cruises. Up here, far from the crowds, they're clearly for work - primarily if not exclusively. This photo was taken along the west coast, just off the road.

Even though it was almost dark, I was still able to snap this photo of a tiny lakeside shrine and pretty bridge.
