Unless you give it four days, or get a VERY early start on day two, you'll probably have to make some hard decisions about how much of the coastline to do. On my last trip, I drew the line at the stretch just north of Notojima: it seemed like a lot of mileage for not much real gain, and it was already going to be after dark when I arrived. So I went inland, and was pleasantly surprised to find it very nice: rolling paddy country like this, and thankfully not much in terms of elevation. As a result, the time savings were considerable.

Among the many things that Japan does very well: scarecrows. I try to catalogue any new species I come across, and found these two midway along the inland bypass.
